NOTES:

Since I was a child, I’ve enjoyed Alfred Tennyson’s poem, “Charge of the Light Brigade”. The words appropriately capture the energy, drama, and turmoil of war. It’s closing eulogy beautifully mourns the loss of the “Six Hundred”.

Good lyrics tend to “write themselves”. My purpose in writing this setting was simply to bring the words to life and help capture the energy and drama conveyed by the poem.

The original version was premiered in 1998 at Missouri State University in Springfield, MO. I do not yet have a recording of the revised version. If you would like to perform this piece—or know of a great Baritone who may be interested—please contact me.

*This piece can be transposed up or down to accommodate just about any male vocal range.
