An entire “Christmas Concert in a Box”. At least it will be soon…

I originally wrote “A Christmas Spectacular” in 2005 for a joint concert between the Emerald Street Brass and two choirs, Incendia and Vocal Expressions. It was written to be a “grand finale” for the joint ensembles.

I had about 3 weeks to write it. So there wasn’t a lot of time to think artistically about the piece. It wound up being a patch-quilt of original material and arrangements of traditional favorite carols.

Still… the audience loved it. And it was performed again in 2007 by the El Camino College Choir under the direction of Joanna Nachef.

What I would like to do with this piece is revisit it, expand the scope, take some of the material I originally came up with and develop it into a large scale multi-movement work, with each movement being a self-contained piece that could conceivably be performed on its own.

In other words, I want to write what will essentially become an entire Christmas concert of original carols and fresh arrangements of old favorites for choir and chamber wind ensemble.

The only thing keeping me from working on it is the assurance of a performance. If you like what you see and hear of what I’ve written so far… and you’d like to program a Christmas concert for choir and chamber wind ensemble (11 players), please contact me to discuss how we could work together in creating a bigger, badder, bolder “Christmas Spectacular”!
