I’ve always been fascinated by the story of the wise men. First of all, who were they? Zoroastrian priests from Persia? Yogi gurus from India? Intriguing legends support both possibilities as well as others.

And how, exactly, did they divine the birth of Christ? Was there a literal star in the sky? A supernova, perhaps? Or is it a reference to astrology? Or esoteric symbolism referring to the “third eye” of human consciousness?

Whoever they were, what an epic journey! Especially in those times when long distance travel meant braving inclement weather, bandits, and all sorts of other dangers.

This arrangement of “We Three Kings” is meant to capture the mysterious nature of these men, as well as the drama of their epic journey toward Bethlehem.
